By journauto, on October 30, 2010, at 5:29 pm Just finished writing my Autonet.ca piece on judging the Prestige category at the annual AJAC TestFest this past week. The weather was great for this time of year ( a bit windy at times) and I accomplished what I’d set out to do. That is, to drive some of the most expensive cars money can [...]
By journauto, on October 30, 2010, at 12:35 pm Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON – Seventy of Canada’s top automotive journalists spent this week in the picturesque tourist town of Niagara-on-the-Lake; but not for the scenery or the wine tasting. Journalist members of the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) were there for the express purpose of determining the ‘Best New’ cars and SUV/CUVs in 11 different [...]
By journauto, on October 6, 2010, at 1:28 pm The 2011 Canadian Car of the Year competition is a few weeks away and I’m eager to get back to Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario for some hands-on road and track-testing.
As a voting member of the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada, I get to spend a week driving a slew of Canada’s newest vehicles back-to-back to try [...]
By journauto, on September 4, 2010, at 12:38 pm Okay, so blogging has been one of the furthest things from my mind lately, but I can no longer neglect this space. In an effort to make it up (to myself, that is), I’ve decided to do a write-up on one of the most anticipated cars of the decade. Without further ado, I give you [...]
By journauto, on June 9, 2010, at 9:44 pm Tommi Mäkinen is mackin’ it hard in this video, released to today by Subaru’s parent company Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. The vid is part of an advanced R&D project carried out at the world-famous the Nürburgring racetrack in Germany, using a 2011 model year Subaru WRX STI four-door sedan test mule.
His time (7’55″00) is [...]

Today is my birthday, but my present came early this year…
About a month ago, I was back in Pahrump, Nevada to attend the 2010 Canadian AMG Performance Tour at the Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch. I’d first come here to drive the Nissan 370Z coupe when it launched.
So, while I was here to [...]

Forza Motorsport 3 is out for Xbox 360 and I’ve finally had some time to sink my teeth into it a bit. The short is this game tops the racing sim market. I played Sony’s Gran Turismo Prologue and FM3 delivers a closer-to-life driving experience. My reasons are plentiful, but the biggest difference might well [...]

Alongside TestFest every year, the Automobile Journalist’s Association of Canada (AJAC) hosts an awards banquet to reward its members in a host of different writing, photography and layout categories. I haven’t won anything for my writing to date, but I did take home a couple photography awards in my first and second year as [...]
By journauto, on November 3, 2009, at 8:36 pm The first round of voting is over and there are winners and losers. Here’s a video of me thrashing around the Ste. Catharines Niagara District Airport runway test track in the one of the winners:
They’re not all this crazy and “TestFest” is not all fun and games!
Seventy of Canada’s top automotive [...]

This is me testing the 2013 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 GT on the skidpad at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Driver Development Track (Mosport DDT). The purpose of this exercise is to demonstrate car control. As you can see, the all-new 2013 Genesis is quite happy to get sideways and into a drift. With 348 hp and 295 lb-ft on tap, the V6 is powerful and torquey enough to take the long way around the pad too. Stay tuned for an update on this and a forthcoming track shakedown of the 2013 Gen Coupe.
Vital specs:
3.8-litre GDI V6 with 348 hp and 295 lb-ft
6-speed manual
1,616 kg curb weight
Torsen LSD
Bridgestone RE050A UHP summer tires (P225/40R19 front and P245/40R19 rear)
Brembo 13.4/13.0" (340/330 mm) vented discs, four-piston calipers (f/r)
Footage shot in HD with my Drift HD cam. Enjoy!
